You can look at running in multiple ways; a stress reliever, great exercise, alone time, perfect way to meet friends, and even just to do it for fun. For me, I run because of all of those reasons. Running has impacted my life more than almost anything and it is one of the best decisions I have ever made. Running with my friends is my favorite thing to do. It turns a bad day into a day worth remembering because I have my best friends by my side doing the thing we do best. Once you pass the stage of knowing that running hurts, it's tiring, it's hard, you then understand that you can get through those things once you put your mind to it. Billy Mills, a gold medal Olympian once said, "The ultimate is not to win, but to reach within the depths of your capabilities and to compete against yourself to the greatest extent possible. When you do that, you have dignity. You have the pride. You can walk about with character and pride no matter in what place you happen to finish." This quote states that you don't have to win to be a champion and you don't have to win to be accomplished, if you challenge yourself and push yourself to be the best you can be, that's being your own champion.

The first year I ran cross country and track was freshman year. I didn't like running at all but once I started running cross country, I couldn't get enough of it and I just wanted to keep running! The only reason I convinced myself to do cross country was because I wanted to do sports with my best friends. My friends make both track and cross country so much fun because we all have the same thing in common... we love to run!! I really don't know what I would do without my cross country and track team because they are my family, we spend hours everyday with each other and we've gotten so close. Running cross country and track have made me the person I am because running gave me a new perspective on life and nature and almost everything.
I absolutely love running! Running has been a huge part of my life these past few years. I've only ran track and cross country these past two years but deciding to do both of these sports was one of my best decisions ever. Both of these sports have taught me so much not only about running but also about meeting new people and overcoming hard times. Yes, running is hard and tiring, its also a huge mental sport. It takes a lot of mentally telling yourself that yes you can do it and yes you can go farther and faster. Only 10% of running is the physical ability and the other 90% is all mental. Anyone can do it as long as you set your mind to it.
